Every season comes with a change of weather conditions that require a change in method to maintain nourish hair. Just like during summer where the heat becomes more intense, and direct exposure to the heat of the sun can cause damage on hair such as dry, dull, and frizzy hair. The summer season also causes higher humidity in which air holds more moisture and dry hair attracts the water vapour in the air. The extra moisture in hair makes it heavy for the strands that result in hair loses volume, and if you have thick hair, it can cause your strand to expand which eventually turns to uncontrollable frizzy hair.
I always consider maintaining a proper hair care routine for every season that fits my hair type to have fabulous hair as always. Here are my top 5 tips to maintain nourishing hair during dry and humid weather.
- Trim Your Hair
The tips of hair take a lot of beating during the summer. This is why we see those split ends and dry tips. Summer is my ideal season to give myself a new haircut, but if you don’t want to cut your hair shorten, just go for a small trim that will take care of the ends and bring back life to your hair.
- Dry your hair naturally
When your hair is wet, it can be fragile and prone to breakage, so rubbing your hair with a towel may cause damage such as split and dry ends. Usually, we also used a hair blow dryer to dry the hair quickly, but the heat of it can wipe out the moisture from the hair strand that leads to frizz. If the hair is dripping wet after a shower, I gently dab it with a cotton towel and let the nature (air) dry my hair naturally to maintain moisture and avoid any hair damage.
I avoid any other heat hair tools such as straighteners and curlers as additional heat may cause damage to hair. I prefer to have to go with my natural hairstyle during hot season.
- Always moisturize
Just like our skin, the hair also needs additional moisture especially when the weather temperature is rising. I regularly used hair conditioner and creamy shampoos that are enriched with ingredients such as honey and oils for my hair care routine to maintain the hair’s moisture.
- Try hair masking
Most of the regular hair care routines that we consider consist of cleansing, conditioning, and oiling but if you think that it is not enough to maintain moisture during hot days you may consider a hair mask. There are lots of homemade hair masks suggested for different hair types and problems, one of the simplest hair masks I have tried is the mayonnaise mask which is rich in natural oils and egg protein that deep condition the scalp and gives essential oils to deal with dry hair. Just simply apply 4-5 tablespoons of mayonnaise to your hair and leaves for 30 minutes before rinsing.
- Sleep on silk
Waking up with frizzy and untangle hair is not good for our hair. Instead of sleeping in a cotton pillowcase, I used a pillow with a silk case which reduces harmful friction of hair in pillows that cause breakage and messy hair when waking up.
- Protect hair from U.V rays
The sun ultraviolet radiation (U.V rays) can dry out the hair. Every time I go out for some errands or having fun in a beach, I always wear your fashionable hat to protect my hair from sun damage. I’m also fond of putting on scarf to protect my hair, besides it can also add a fun style to my outfit.
- Use the right hair products
Exposing the hair directly to dry or humid heat may cause more damage. Turn this around by using a trusted hair care products like serum and cream that suits your hair to protect your hair absorbs the bad effects of weather condition or harmful pollutants. I tame my hair by protecting it from causes of damage and provides the nourishment that it needs to keep my hair healthy.
These tips are worth considering to add in your hair care routine as it helps me to always enjoy the heat of summer with less worries about my hair because I know how to protect and maintain nourish hair. Don’t let the sun chase you and damage your hair. Instead, you chase the fun under the sun as long as your hair is nourished and protected.
