10 Easy Ways for Glowing Skin all Year Round

We all know that beauty is skin deep however having glowing skin is a sign of health and wellness. Our skin is constantly exposed to harmful elements which can cause damage, and our own lifestyle habits such as poor diet, lack of sleep, and stress. Unfortunately this is all part of life and sometimes things we cannot avoid. That is why we will discuss 10 easy ways to maintain glowing skin all year round.

  1. Slap on Sunscreen

One of the biggest damages to our skin is the sun. Sun can cause a lifetime of wrinkles, age spots, and other skin issues, which is why number one on our list is to wear a sunscreen. When purchasing the right sunscreen, look for a ‘noncomedogenic’ or ‘nonacnegenic’ type so that it will not block your pores. The sunscreen should be applied daily. We also recommend a mineral-based sunscreen with active ingredients such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide that is at least SPF 30 or higher. Lastly, the sunscreen should protect you from UVA rays as well as UVB rays. Even if you are not going outside, the sunscreen should be applied as the UVA rays can penetrate through glass and windows.

  1. Use Vitamin C

One of the best things for glowing skin is vitamin C, which is safe for all skin types. The vitamin C will help brighten your skin providing that fresh glow all year round. Vitamin C also helps fade hyperpigmentation, protect against environmental particles, and promote collagen and elastin production. Vitamin C is also helpful to smooth wrinkles and can aid skin health in general. There are a few ways you can get vitamin C – through your diet by eating citrus fruits, or also buy using a vitamin C product.

  1. Clean your Make Up Brushes

Your make up brushes are breeding grounds for bacteria, dead skin cells, and grime. We do not need to tell you that none of this good for your skin. Try cleaning your make up brushes weekly by mixing a gentle facial cleanser of shampoo in warm water to ensure that you are not putting any nasties on your skin.

  1. Use an Exfoliator

Exfoliating helps with removing dead skin cells and help with enlarged pores. Enlarged pores come from pores filled with dirt, oil, and keratin. By exfoliating, you are clearing out the gunk and dissolving the dirt in the pores. Do not use a harsh scrub or cloth, but a light, daily exfoliation with a non-irritating acid cleanser or toner will also help increase the absorption rate of your skincare products, and brighten your complexion.

  1. Give yourself a Facial Massage

Not only will this feel good, but it can lessen tension and increase circulation, as well as help tone the muscles in your face. Use a jade roller to massage your face for about five minutes a night while watching TV to achieve a facial glow.

  1. Cleanse your Make Up

Leaving make up on your skin will clog pores and can cause breakouts and dryness. Make sure you have a thorough skin regime where you take off all make up including eye make up to avoid millia cysts, which are small white bumps around the eyes. Make sure you use a proper cleanser from a well-known skincare brand rather than a regular soap, as that will strip your skin’s natural oils, making your face anything but glowing.

  1. Moisturise

Moisturising your skin will keep it healthy, hydrated, and that’s right – glowing. Use moisturisers with ingredients such as peptides, electrolytes, and ceramides. If you do not like to moisturise, then you can use a face oil as an alternative. A rose hip oil, or an oil that is unprocessed will be best for nourishing your skin. To add an extra glow, use a tinted moisturiser during the day underneath or instead of your make up.

  1. Get your Beauty Sleep

Lack of sleep, or poor sleep can really affect your skin. Poor quality of sleep can show increased signs of ageing to the skin, cause fine lines and wrinkles, and can compromise skin barrier function.  A study had also shown that lack of sleep can cause hyperpigmentation like the dark circles and puffy eye bags. While you sleep, your skin rejuvenates itself and hydrates and restores all the nutrients back into your skin. Try and get above six hours sleep to really impact your skin glow.

  1. Indulge in a Face Mask

Face masks are an easy pampering feature for your skin. Whether you do a clay mask, liquid or gel mask, cream mask, or a sheet mask – it is an extra boost to glowing skin. Face masks target different things. A sheet mask mainly focuses on hydrating and smoothing out your skin delivering a youthful glow. A clay mask will help absorb oil and impurities from your pores while tightening your skin. For maximum glow, find a face mask with hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, or vitamin E. Not only will a face mask help our skin, it will help you unwind and relax.

  1. Chill out

Stress is a major reason for acne and blemishes. Next time you feel slightly worked up or stressed, take a moment to breathe. This is one of the best things you can do for your body. We know this is easier said than done, but try commit to a self-care routine including face masks, exercise, doing the things that you love, long steam showers, and ensuring you get your beauty sleep. Your body, skin, and overall mental health will be thanking you!
